| KENT POLOCROSSE CLUB |

|
Kent Target Polocrosse Club was founded in 1997 and since its conception has been based at Richard and Lindie Hillier's picturesque Farm in Goudhurst, near Tunbridge Wells, Kent. The facilities that these grounds boast are two pitches, a sandschool, showers, toilets, a washdown area, stabling and grazing.
The club has approximately 40 playing members, not to mention a number of social members who provide valuable support at tournaments, various social and fund-raising events, and recruitment drives. Club members are from all walks of life and all ages, from 6 -56, from expert to...not that good! , playing on a variety of horses from Shetlands to Thoroughbreds.
We have lots of fun, love our horses, support each other and place a lot of emphasis on team spirit - everyone is welcome!
During the season, we generally practice twice a week on Wednesday evenings and Sundays, and are represented at the majority of tournaments throughout the country. |
|
Each year we appoyint a coach or coaches to take practices, to advise, train horses and offer individual lessons. We have been lucky to have attracted some exceptional player-coaches over the years. Shaye Williams (NZ), Charl du Plessis (SA), Wayne Bushnell (ZIM), Andrew Haynes (SA), Jason Webb (AUS) , Greg Sargeant (ZIM) and Kenny Grimmond (AUS) and Wayne Henning (UK) have all been instrumental in helping our members develop their games and move up through the grades.
Of course, you can't play polocrosse without the horses! We have been lucky in having some of the UK's top horses. The diminutive Little Miss Muffett has won the title of UKPA Best Pony in 1998, 1999 and 2000, and horses such as Sox, Jax, Oriel, Turbo, Prima Vera and many more have all won Best Pony awards at various tournaments.

A large aspect of Polocrosse is competing at Polocrosse tournaments. There are about 9 tournaments to go to between May and September - each tournament lasts a weekend and costs about £35. To enjoy a Polocrosse tournament you will need a large sense of humour, sportmanship, sound drinking ability, and the intention to have a great weekend of fun and play!
In 1998, Kent Target achieved a unique result at the UKPA National Championships and had a clean-sweep in the A, B and C Grade.
The club has enjoyed many tournament successes over the years, but perhaps the greatest success has been in keeping the club strong, happy and enjoying polocrosse.
If you are interested in joining the club then give us an email or come and see us one weekend. |
